• This book gives traditional vocal variations and cadenzas for a number of operas. It was assembled by the Italian vocal coach Luigi Ricci (1893 - 1981). It is one of four (this one is for both male and female voices). Anybody involved in performing one of these operas should consult the appropriate volume to become acquainted with many traditions that have (for better or worse) become standard. For some operas Ricci lists perhaps just one variation, but for others there are many pages of alternative cadenzas. There is also an interesting article in Italian on appoggiaturas in recitatives.
